A TRIBUTE TO THE MEMORY OF PROF. IOANNIS ZIOMAS

Dedicated to the memory of our colleague, collaborator, mentor and dearest friend, Prof. Ioannis Ziomas, this workshop explores Air Quality Processes in Eastern Mediterranean, which was the focus of his research work. One of the major achievements of his career was the coordination of the European project Mediterranean Campaign of Photochemical Tracers -Transport and Chemical Evolution (MEDCAPHOT-TRACE).

The purpose of MEDCAPHOT-TRACE was to study the chemical and meteorological evolution of ozone and related trace gases (over land and sea), modulated by the various synoptic and local meteorological conditions (sea/land breeze circulation, local winds, inversion layers etc.) in one of the largest urban agglomerations in the Mediterranean region. A major accomplishment of the MEDCAPHOT-TRACE project was the measuring campaign that took place in the greater Athens area during the summer of 1994 (20 August – 20 September) with the participation of 16 European and Greek scientific groups.

The workshop is organized in the context of the 30th anniversary of the MEDCAPHOT-TRACE campaign.
